In a few years, the G5 is going to become the new FCS and the FCS is going to become a 1-AAA type division. This is just the second tier Texas schools making sure they are in the second tier of football when it all shakes out.
If the P5 splits up, I kind of wish they would just blow up the super-conferences and go to something like this:
Big East: Boston College, Louisville, Miami, Notre Dame, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, West Virginia
ACC: Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Virginia, Wake Forest
SEC: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
Big Ten: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue, Wisconsin
Big Eight: Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State
SWC: Arkansas, Baylor, Brigham Young, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Christian, Texas Tech, Utah
(I suppose you could switch the Oklahoma schools and the Utah schools)
PAC-10: Arizona, Arizona, California, Oregon, Oregon State, Southern California, Stanford, UCLA, Washington, Washington State
Seven conference winners and 1 at-large for an 8 team playoff. Double it for a 16 team playoff.
As for Chicago State, they really shouldn’t even have an athletic department at this point. I don’t want the school to close though, they should just be the South Side’s answer to Northeastern Illinois on the North Side. They had D-1 athletics until the mid 90’s when they shut down their athletic department.
