I have no idea why none of the have teams have tried to get either of those two players. DJ is one of two catchers in the league that can actually bat, and Franco has monster batting stats.

I'd be interested if he wasn't signed as long. Those 33-35 seasons could be ugly.

He's never injured, and is durable. I just get the impression he'll be fine. Especially if you're bringing a catcher through and rotate with him.... But I fucking blow at this game, so maybe I'm wrong...

Maybe he keeps it together, yeah, but old catchers don't have a great track record.

Hayvis should just decide what he wants to do, and then do the opposite of that thing!

"What we'll do is open the offseason with super low ticket prices of $11 for season ticket sales and early season excitement before people realize we're bad... then when our incompetence is revealed, we'll RAISE ticket prices!"

"I only have two actual assets... and I don't want some HAVE scooping them up in free agency, so what I'll do is extend them on deals I can't afford until they are 35 to make them un-tradeable!"

jk it's all part of the learning process! The WBL trade partners do not prefer long term deals, that's for sure! They like to imagine the deal they can sign!

He's 10m a year, so he's not the worst thing in the world to have around. I will happily keep him, as I think I can keep both those players and be ok. The next five seasons are a rebuild for me anyway. If anyone wants either of those two they'll have to pay.

An old catcher is a tough sell especially when he isn’t much of an improvement for a lot of teams. The 1B should generate interest though.

I'm honestly really fine with what I did with those two. It was actually thought out. I didn't know whether long extensions were something people did, but figured I'd only do it with two (very good) players, which I could afford to have even in a rebuild (they are cheap for what they are). As they're fan favs they will bring in punters, and at the same time, if they're still around when my farm (inevitably) comes good, then they should propel the team forward much quicker. I HAVE A WIN WIN.

This is the thing that confuses me. Firstly he at worst has 3-4 years in him. Secondly he's literally one of two catchers in the entire league that doesn't have a shitty bat, therefore is one of very few positions that would instantly upgrade a team.

You are right. I thought he was older. He should be ok for a couple more years.

I don’t know how you are coming to your second conclusion though.

Could you link me up with all the good catchers that have a better bat?
These may not all be better, but I don’t think DJ would be much of an improvement (which is what I said), especially at his cost.

Both of Borgs catchers have ratings, but underperform.

Some teams have young catchers they are developing. See both at Seoul.

There is also in general some old guy that can be had for super cheap each year, see Berlin.

Firstly, you beautifully illustrate how there is always a deficiency in most teams catchers. DJ has good catcher ratings, good bat ratings, and good stats on a shitty team. You also illustrate beautifully that there is also always good old catchers around and therefore his contract isn't a problem (there are more than one although not as good as DJ). He's durable, and therefore more than likely he'll be old and good.

There are no great catchers. Why overpay for an average one? That’s what I beautifully illustrated.

But is he worth 20x an average catcher who is making the minimum?

Not really. I’m just trying to help you understand why no one wants to trade for your catcher since you have been whining about it.

Wasn't whining and I don't need to understand. I'll just keep him, and then if things don't go my way, I'll petition to change the league around a bit. Or start a new one without catchers.
