I've never even heard of Mayo. Which is probably a good thing overall. NFL has enough retreads.

Jerod Mayo had a strong pro-bowl caliber career at LB with the Patriots, I’m a total NFL casual so I’m surprised you’ve never heard of him.

Edit: what is it with former good-to-great LBs getting HC jobs lately? Jerod Mayo, Demeco Ryans, Antonio Pierce as interim in Vegas. Also not recent, but Vrabel in Tennessee.

Linebackers typically get the green dot on their helmets (i.e., they are they ones who get the defensive calls from the sidelines) and they are usually the ones who make the defensive adjustments before the play starts. It's probably an easier transition into coaching for the ones who know what they are doing.

There was a number of years where youth football and fall baseball/softball ate up my Sundays and I didn't watch much NFL at all. Probably during that period. Seems I would remember an opaque named Mayo.

You would think that we’d see more QBs in that mold, then - maybe Zac Taylor fits, but I don’t even know if he played in the NFL to any extent. Doug Pederson and Harbaugh are a bit older than I had in mind. Probably some guys I’m overlooking, but maybe the QBs from that time period made so much more money that they aren’t as willing to sacrifice for a grueling coaching career.

if either Coach in the Pittsburgh-Buffalo game attempts a field goal or punts on fourth down, they should be thrown into Lake Erie.

QBs also tend to get lucrative tv deals.

Watching Romo and both mannings diagnose plays makes me think they would be killer coordinators.

Can't wait for corch Jonathan Vilma SZN!

I don't know if he's still considered a viable corch, but Mike Kafka almost got a job after a career as a permanent backup. Same deal with Kellen Moore

Mayo was a stud in college, top 10 draft pick, pro bowler, defensive rookie of the year and Super Bowl shamp. He’s earned some stripes.
He was also from the era in Madden where you wanted a coverage LB with some pass rush stats and you could flip between 43 and 34 in Multiple playbooks like the Pat's.

Now LBs don't animate for picks, so everyone runs safeties as Sub LB, which is on the Specialist Tab in the depth chart. They automatically sub in at LB in everything but a run stopping set such as 43 34 46.

Bills-Steelers moved to Monday.

Weak ass generation..
This is entirely motivated by fear of litigation. Some fan or camera guy loses a few toes to frostbite and its a lawsuit.

Several players from that Fouts ice game were permanently disabled from the cold of that game.
