He has a third pitch that could develop, and there have been effective SP in the league who only had two real pitches.

What's the advantage of that? I have no idea what the benefits of each team are.
There is a greater chance of some early success. That value is unknown, but why have him get shelled in AA right away. To me if you want him to be a SP I’d do a few months at each level, bumping him up if he is successful. It’s preference I suppose. I don’t send anyone straight to AA.
