Mr. Radpants
Trog Five Standing By
IMMERSION: VERY HIGH
The WBL Winter Meeting Committee would like to invite GM-Owner-Managers men and their family and friends to the 129th annual WBL Winter Meetings in FORTALEZA, BRAZIL!
Fortaleza is the capital of the northeastern Brazilian state of Ceará. It's known for its beaches, which are punctuated by red cliffs, palm trees, dunes and lagoons. It's also known as the home of the WBL's newest beisebol team, the Fortaleza Sol! Sol is the name of the sun, which is an oddly diurnal name for a baseball team owned by an e-sport creature that sits up streaming Chinese gaming at 4am UR Standard Time, but we digress! Grab a friend-GM and go for a long walk on the beach, because the Winter Meetings don't end after two posts like his fan fiction!
Beaches are the top draw in this sunny, rapidly developing city, particularly bohemian, party-hearty Iracema, family-friendly Meireles, fishing and boating base camp Mucuripe and low-key Praia do Futuro. Stalls at the Mercado Central or Feirinha Beira Mar brim with local handicrafts, ranging from ceramics to lacework and leather goods.
Not into beaches? Check out the lovely colonial architecture, with the best examples along the Praia de Iracema beachfront. The Dutch-built Fortress of Nossa Senhora da Assunção in the city center, constructed in 1649, marks the spot where Fortaleza originated.
Anything else to enjoy? We're not sure! We're not even sure Fortaleza still exists, because it is the year 2079 and Buffalo has grown into an Ecumenapolis covering the entire planet Earth. In fact, we're not sure if any other cities exist and if the league should even technically exist.
A joint collaboration between the Winter Committee Meeting and the WBL Commissioner's Office, the Worldtopia Baseball League and their affiliated parties will gather at the 128th annual meetings for a week filled with seminars and league and organizational meetings.
For six event-packed days, the host hotel will bring together front office personnel, trade show exhibitors and job seekers, all under one roof. Throughout the week, a number of notable events fill the agenda, including the Baseball Trade Show; the WBL Job Fair, presented by the ULG; the Banquet; the Bob Freitas Business Seminar & Workshop Series; the Awards Luncheon; and the Gala. This year's breakout sessions include:
SABR 601: The best minds in advanced statistics try to piece together the Oradpants Mystery and the properties around @Orlando and @Mr. Radpants quitting the league, @OU11 joining the league, the intricate dependencies between their relationships, and who remains in the league.
80/80 Power Posting: @jdlikewhoa breaks down the impact of capitalizing QUIT in QUITTING threats during negotiations
The Return of Clippy!: We've heard your cries, new owners. Brought back from Windows 95, Clippy is joining OOTP! He will advise new owners to not commit $200M in contracts in their first season.
OOTP Megastructures: In this tutorial by @NML, he'll describe how to outclass the Ecumenapolis and the Dyson Sphere by creating the largest man-made structure known to the galaxy: The Rule Change Thread.
And a live screening of a new film:
30 for 30: Sea of Dreams
When Iowa seaman Rutgers Mike (Kevin Costner) hears a mysterious voice one night on the sea saying "If you build it, he will come," he feels the need to act. Despite taunts of lunacy from sane GMs, Mike builds a baseball diamond on the sea. Afterward, ghosts of great cheating players begin emerging from the waves to play ball, led by Shoeless Jo- …well, actually, led by all of them, because they were all edited to be TEAM CAPTAINS. Will Mike attempt to immortalize their cheating in the Hall of GOATS? Or will he learn to let sleeping cheaters continue to swim with the fishes in that painted Sea of Dreams hanging on the wall of the local seafood joint?
