It’s kind of wild that FSU’s only win so far this season was vs Cal, which would’ve beaten Miami if the targeting penalty was correctly called. What are we supposed to make of the ACC right now? Which Miami booster is paying the refs?

Georgia at 4 and bama at 7 in the corches poll. Oregon dropped to 9 early in the season while winning because they looked bad, bama loses to unranked vandy in pretty convincing fashion and they are still ranked at 7 lol. Georgia ranked above multiple undefeated teams despite also losing pretty convincingly (failed comeback notwithstanding).

While we’re whining about SEC bias, all five 1 loss teams in the top 10 of the corches poll are SEC teams. There are two undefeated big 12 teams still, and Clemson/ND are both 1 loss. As much as I dislike both of those teams and will decline to stan for ND, Clemson lost to Georgia while dominating the rest of their schedule. Their resume is better than at least half of the 1 loss SEC teams.

The Big 12 is pretty fun this year and also kind of good? The conference is COMPLETELY wide open still. They have two teams that are undefeated, five teams that have 1 loss and 5 teams that are undefeated in conference play.

Texas gonna make the 2022 game look like a nailbiter. OU has no business being on the same field this year.
I'm not an OU-Texas historian but doesn't that rivalry have a pretty good track record of being much closer than expected during seasons where one team is looking much better than the other? The 2015 Texas win stands out to me but I might just be placing too much weight on that.

Yes weird things happen in Dallas but this OU team is very injured on top of just being bad on offense. Defense is solid but it won't win them this game.

The non-targeting was called correctly. He hit him in the shoulder with his shoulder

are you blind lol?

2 game deciding ref judgement calls against fringe bowl teams. cal tried not blowing a 20 pt 4q lead tho?

if their schedule was worth anything theyd miss the paloffs. this like the herbert year at oregon where THE BUM just gonna be carried by ROBO QB, beating no one.

THEM OVEMENT louisville qb gonna have the revenge game of his career against the bum. almost beat THE SQUAD by hisself last year on a shitty ttu team. may not be enough tho.

So I'm gonna do a little sperging feel free to ignore me as usual. I was just interested in looking at the Oregon/BSU game again in light of Jeanty's start to the season and Oregon's defensive performances since.

  • Jeanty had 192 yards on 25 carries with 3 TDs vs Oregon, 7.7ypc.
  • He had 4 rushes of over 10 yards (17, 31, 12, 70) accounting for 144(!) yards
  • this means that for his other 21 carries his ypc was 2.28.
It was also interesting charting this all out, because it seems obvious that Boise State didn't use him enough IMO. They only gave him the rock more than once during 5 drives, all but one of them ending in scores (1 FG, 3 TDs, 1 punt). All three drives that he had a 10+ yarder ended in points. He only got one carry on 8 drives and they only scored once on those drives (the passing TD after the Oregon Fumble). There was one 3&out that he wasn't even on the field for. This kind of reinforces how it felt watching the game because it felt like Boise State was pretty inconsistent moving the ball (9-19 on 3rd down, 17/40 passing for 148 yards (3.7 ypp) but then Oregon would give them a short field (both times resulting in TDs) or Jeanty would almost singlehandedly engineer a drive after being bottled up/underused for multiple drives.

conclusion: Jeanty is insanely good and if Boise State ran him 40 times instead of 25 they might have won?

Idk I also kind of feel okay with Oregon's rushing defense overall. Since the BSU game they allowed 131 rushing yards to Oregon State (116 yards in the first half lol wtf), 47 yards to UCLA, 59 yards to Michigan state (they also only allowed 49 rushing yards to Idaho fwiw). UCLA didn't score a TD on offense, and Michigan state was shut out 31-0 until the 2s and 3s came in halfway through the 4th quarter. Oregon has allowed ~500 yards on the season which is a top 25 figure, nearly 40% was just Jeanty lol. ESPN has Oregon ranked 6th in Strength of record so that seems pretty good?

4, 4, 17, 4 - FG
2 - Punt
7, 6, 3, 0, 3 - TD (Jeanty run)
1 - Punt
(no touches) - Punt
0 - TD (their drive started on the oregon 30... jeez)
31, 1, 12 - FG

(end of half)

5 -Punt
2 - Punt
0 - Punt
8 - missed FG
70 - TD (Jeanty)
6, 3, 8 - TD (Jeanty, this was after an Oregon fumble at the Oregon 17)
3, 2 - Punt
4 - Punt

(end of game)

anyway, Ohio State is averaging over 200 rushing yards per game, Oregon seems to be doing pretty decent stopping the run, but neither of them have played anybody except Oregon vs BSU. So the running game will be key. Obviously both teams have good receivers also but if Oregon can make tOSU one dimensional (a big ask) I think that favors Oregon because of their pass rush and disruptive backfield.

The line is -4 tOSU and I think Oregon probably loses but if they win it's because their rush defense is good, actually?

oregon punted 7 times and hit 2 lotto winning tickets in the second half. boise corches did fine.

Boise State punted 8 times and ran him once or not at all on 7 of those drives though lol. They passed 40 times!

so ur saying not only did the FRAUD SQUAD need special teams miracles to win, but boise corches helped them too.

michigan state, ucla, idaho arent scoring on anyone this year. osu played well on O before it got out of hand on D. there no need for overanalysis.

I don't really consider those to be special teams miracles lol. Oregon has pretty much always put their best players on punt and kickoff returns. It always takes a little luck and to get 2 returns in one game is pretty crazy but it's part of the game!

But yeah I definitely think BSU corches should have ran Jeanty more. If they lost running him 40 times that's one thing but I think they underutilized him especially considering their poor passing performance. Maybe that's just hindsight but it is kind of crazy seeing how many drives they didn't really use him.

and yeah, none of those other teams are good. It's still that part of the season where we don't really know if the STATS mean anything because most teams haven't played anybody. I'm just saying I think there's a plausible case that Oregon has a good run defense and if they're going to beat Ohio State they need the STATS to be reel. 3/4 of Jeanty's yards came on 4 plays so maybe there is something there. I WANT TO BELIEVE!

I get it, I know. I don't really like the implication that the win is devalued because of special teams though. It's part of the game.

Pretty funny that Fox refuses to go to other networks' games for this and will now pretend this is the biggest game of the week

I've had the feeling this season that Fox is just going around to wherever they want and not trying to pick "biggest game" each week for the location. If I'm wrong, then I guess they chose this game before they knew Arizona had lost and figured it would be a matchup of ranked opponents.

It’s a good thing they play Oregon, Penn state. Indiana too, for that matter. The USC game could be interesting.

I’m wondering what the methodology is for the JP poll - WARSHINGTON isn’t even in the top 25 while BUD has them as a playoff caliber team lol.

Mame YO

split natty babby
There is a similar discrepancy with Clemson. BUD calls them overrated, JP has them 9th in his power ranking and despite Miami being 7th says he would take Clemson over Miami if they played this weekend (to be fair, 7th to 9th is probably less than a field goal difference in his rankings).

I’ve posted the EPA/play graph in every week’s thread for a couple seasons now :dunno:

I am doing a bit of sperging! I’m just a little bit nervous right now okay?
