the SF position has plagued the pelicans since they moved to N.O.

I cant think of one year where they had a competent player at that position. Im hesitant to mention Ariza, but he didnt really play to the level of the contract they gave him

Tell me a team that has been as thin at the 3 for as long as we have

Who was our last good 3? Mashburn when they first moved to NO?

He had to be. I think it was B.Davis, D. Wesley, SF, Mashburn, J. Magloire. Or maybe he did play the SF while Birdman played the PF but i dont remember him ever "starting".

Posey came after Baron left town, then Ariza came after Posey

ahhhh....you might be right. The Lampe name rings a bell now

OH and how could i forget about Peja. He was the SF when Mashburn played right?

I think Peja was after Mash retired

Peja was still on the Kings with Bibby when we had Mash

But yeah, Peja is a good 3 if all you care about is 3 pt %

LMAO. The Saints turn $10.5 Million into over 5500 total yards, 22 TDs, AND A FIFTH ROUND PICK and folks think New Orleans is getting swindled. Hilarious world we're living in.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-orleans-saints/cap-hit/2014/

After moving Sproles, signing Byrd, and extending Thomas the Saints somehow still have nearly $2M in cap space with 53 players under contract. A lot of those contracts without any dead money are going to be cut to make room for the rookies and if Graham and the Saints ever agree on a long term deal his $7M cap hit will come down. Hoping they can re-sign De La Puente. Oh, and take a look at this shit.

From the gospel of Pro Football Focus.

Overvalued

1. Jabari Greer, Cornerback*
Greer was having a slightly down season when he was injured nine snaps into Week 11. Through that game, he had allowed more than 15 yards per reception and three touchdowns, countered with six pass defenses and an interception so his coverage grade wasn’t too bad at -3.0; more than 40 corners finished the season with a worse grade. However, combined with injury and a $5.4 million cap number, the value wasn’t there and clearly the team felt similarly when they released Greer earlier this offseason.
2013 Cap Hit: $5.4m
2013 Performance Based Value: $970k
Value Differential: -$4.5m

2. Jonathan Vilma, Linebacker*
Given that Vilma played just 12 snaps all season, his ranking on this list is almost solely due to injury, though he was unlikely to outperform his $3.8 million cap anyway. In those snaps (Week 9) he finished with a -1.4 grade, and he hasn’t graded positively in any season since 2008, including overall grades below -20.0 in both 2010 and 2011.
2013 Cap Hit: $3.8m
2013 Performance Based Value: $51k
Value Differential: -$3.7m

3. Malcolm Jenkins, Safety
While Jenkins improved this season under Rob Ryan after a putrid 2012 (along with the rest of the Saints defense), he still graded negatively overall. In the last year of his rookie contract, Jenkins again failed to live up to his first round status and cap hit, finishing among the leaders at the position in penalties and missed tackles, which has been a particular problem over the last few seasons. He’s another player that will be interesting to watch this offseason. Jenkins does offer position versatility but his play on the field hasn’t matched expectations so far.
2013 Cap Hit: $4.1m
2013 Performance Based Value: $987k
Value Differential: -$3.1m

4. Lance Moore, WR – Cap: $4.6m, JVM: $1.6m, Value Differential: -$3.0m
5. Roman Harper, S* – Cap: $3.6m, JVM: $825k, Value Differential: -$2.8m
If this list look familiar, it is because the Saints just got rid of THE FIVE MOST OVERPAID PLAYERS ON THE ROSTER. But yes, the Saints Front Office doesn't have a fucking clue.

I was just telling someone how there were games where it seemed like Jenkins wasn't even on the field

Celtics game is an early start today at 5. Interested to see if Davis logs a lot of time at center since Boston really doesn't have one. He should, but Monty has proven to be quite the numbskull on this issue.

Ideally Aminu plays a lot of PF, Babbitt too, and Withey gets some time on the floor. Rivers needs more time than Roberts and Tyreke must start. I fully expect none of these things to occur.

I read that article you posted on Twitter about rivers getting the majority of the minutes now and how pop did that with Tony Parker really on in his career. Good read

I'm not suggesting rivers will be anything close to Parker but the increased minutes will be a huge boost in his confidence which imo, is the biggest thing that separates him from Roberts

I have a near 5000 word article on the postseason in the works. Debating whether to split it into four separate articles.

You might wanna split it up. Who do you think you are? Bill Simmons?

Glad they re-signed Strief. Probably cheaper overall to do that and draft a center than re-sign De La Puente and draft a tackle who can start right away.

Whoever starts at center next year is sandwiched in between Evans and Grubbs. Rather gamble there than on the edge. I had hoped for De La Puente under the idea Strief wouldn't be affordable.

for some reason, i thought Strief had an off year. I like Delito and Bryce as nice replacements though

New stuff up. AD has been incredible. I didn't expect a victory last night, just a close game with Miami pulling away in the fourth.

Monty starting Babbitt went pretty well. I liked it. Nets play a small lineup as well with no real PF, so Monty can go back to the small lineup. Needs to try to win with offense instead of defense at this point.

I hate that the board doesn't allow phone copy paste methods. Or is that just me? Get a "used Ctrl-V" message every time I try to long press copy paste.

Murray or Garoppolo in the 3rd/4th round. Get the real successor in and ingrained in the system and playbook soon. Let him learn under Brees and Payton.

walter football has the saints taking (see below) with their first round pick? Thoughts?

saintsb_logo.gif
New Orleans Saints: Kony Ealy, DE/OLB, Missouri

Considering that New Orleans has to deal with Matt Ryan and Cam Newton twice per year, the team could stand to bolster its pass rush. The Saints can't count on Victor Butler, who is coming off a torn ACL. Butler will be a free agent following the 2014 season anyway.

Insanity. If anything the Saints need inside LB help. The idea that the team 4th in sacks last year needs to shore up the pass rush is absurd.

I have no idea who these people are lol, but thanks for the insight

Re: pelicans

im ready for this season to be over

There needs to be a shorter season. It sucks watching games knowing they dont count towards anything. I mean, i like seeing AD develop, but a shorter season is probably the best thing for the league right now.

I go the opposite way, I don't want the season to end. The team has finally found its way despite the injuries. Monty isn't going anywhere (despite everything) so I want more Evans and Davis getting better together.

My only rush for the season to end is for guys to get healthy. And possibly to trade Eric Gordon.

was pretty hard and pissed last night when the pels went down 20 to the geriatric nets

but had dat smile on my face when they came back and pwned in OT. Thanks to Evans, Davis, irrationally confident Brian Roberts, and Morrow

This is one of the worst managed franchises in sports, beat out by only the Marlins. If we are foolish enough to trade 2 gr8 picks for fucking Holliday (probably not even a top 10 PG, maybe a top 20 PG), we deserve Monty Williams.

Darius Miller must've gotten laid or something. I mean, he didnt light the box score on fire last night, but he showed that confidence I saw in summer league. He believed his shots were going to go in and he didnt get intimidated by chris paul.

Just a great game from everyone except Steisma. Man he sucks hard

in anticipation of the trolls, only a few games left and this season will officially be over. With no pick in the draft this year, im excited to see what Demps has up his sleeves for improving the roster.

Im also interested in seeing what they do with Pierre Jackson. In all likelihood, he wont ever suit up as a pelican which is probably good for him b/c he will get the opportunity to play for a team instead of sitting on the bench. Would like to see how he would play given Roberts minutes, but thats a pipe dream at this point.
