England will win the World Cup. It is 1966 again : Real Madrid won the Champions League, Atletico won La Liga, Austria won the Eurovision Song Contest, and the last time a side came back from 2-0 down in an FA cup final -----1966. This is watertight logic. I just dare anyone to argue with it.

Do you think Spain or Brazil finish second in their group?

DeadMan

I guess that could happen. I just don't see the Netherlands doing much this World Cup. Their squad is old, and beyond the attacking players, really isn't that great. If they weren't in a group with Spain and Chile, I'd still say they would go through, but I'm not sure they can beat either of those teams.

I'm simply accounting for the usual mysteries of the World Cup. Spain have enough points early then go on to sink to second. I put Nigeria through to the Quarterfinals, as there always seems to be one African team that goes on a rampage.

It's the groups where there are two strong and two weak teams that cause curve balls; 1st and 2nd gets skewed due to them getting all the points early.

I sort of think someone from Group D is going to exit the tournament not having lost a game. I could see any of Italy, England, or Uruguay having 3 ties and not advancing. Or they all get 5 points and it comes down to goal difference.

I also think one of Costa Rica, Honduras, or the USA finish in last place. Iran or Algeria might, but they have easier groups. I don't think it's going to be a good tournament for CONCACAF, which would not be good. Don't want to lose a full qualifying place.

I can't wait for this to start. I can't imagine how you'll who actually kniw about this feel. Excited to put this up on my second monitor whilst pretending to work.

It was mentioned in front of an IT guy the other day and he just had a sky smile which indicated "it won't be blocked, we have plenty of bandwidth for streaming, and I'll be watching too."

Here are my bold predictions

Group A: Brazil Croatia Mexico Cameroon
Group B: Spain Chile Netherlands Australia
Group C: Japan Colombia Ivory Coast Dirty Greeks
Group D: Italy England Uruguay Costa Rica
Group E: Switzerland France Ecuador Honduras
Group F: Argentina Nigeria Bosnia Iran
Group G: Germany Portugal Ghana USA
Group H: Belgium Algeria Russia RSK

Brazil over Chile, Japan over England, Swiss over Nigeria, Germany over Algeria
Spain over Croatia, Italy over Colombia, Argentina over France, Portugal over Belgium

Brazil over Japan (man what a game that'd be), Germany over Switzerland
Spain over Italy, Portugal over Argentina

Brazil over Germany, Portugal over Spain

Brazil over Portugal

Group Upsets/Surprises:
Australia grabs 2 points
Costa Rica grabs at least 1 point
Honduras and Ecuador draw, both finish on 1 point
Iran worst team in the tournament
Ghana upsets Germany and draws Portugal but misses on GD, USA beats Ghana, loses to Portugal and Germany, Germany beats Portugal (group ends 6-4-4-3)
Greece draws a Falcaoless Colombia, murder everyone and are a scum to the earth
Algeria gets second in a group with a Shirokovless Russian team and a Dongless South Korea in a massive shock

Group A: Brazil, Mexico. I want to take Croatia over Mexico here given Mexico's fairly shitty form of late, but tie goes to the runner team from a similarly hot, sticky climate, in this case.

Group B: Spain, Chile. Gut feeling is that the Dutch disappoint in this tournament.

Group C: Greece, Colombia. Pulling for Ivory Coast, but I don't think they'll get through.

Group D: Uruguay, Italy. England got a tough draw here. Italy comes up big in tournaments, and Uruguay is sort of on home soil.

Group E: France, Switzerland. The French won't be a dumpster fire this year. They'll do what they're supposed to.

Group F: Argentina, Bosnia-Herzegovina. This one seems pretty straight forward to me.

Group G: Germany, United States. Red, white, and blue goggles are firmly cemented to my face. I've been saying the same thing for a few months. US gets 4 points, and gets through on GD over Portugal. Here's hoping Germany opens a 40-lb box on them in game 1.

Group H: Belgium, Algeria. Gut feeling on Algeria.

Round of 16: Brazil over Chile. Spain over Mexico. Italy over Greece. Uruguay over Colombia. France over Bosnia-Herzegovina. Argentina over Switzerland. Germany over Algeria. Belgium over USA.

Quarters: Brazil over Italy. Spain over Uruguay. Germany over France. Argentina over Belgium.

Semis: Brazil over Germany. Argentina over Spain.

Final: Brazil over Argentina. (3rd place game: Germany over Spain)

Yeah dude, Algeria is giving me the gut feeling. Bentaleb, Feghouli, Taider, there's some talent on the squad, they aren't the Algeria of 4 years ago.

Someone find me a way to watch the WC on Ass'Corch's big screen. Here's what I have at my disposal...

Panasonic Smart TV
PS3
Laptop, but I don't think it has an HDMI out
iPhone

I can obviously stream the game on my laptop, but that's not preferred. Surely, there's a way to do this, but I can't seem to figure it out.

I could totally see Costa Rica playing that New Zealand role this year (not going undefeated though). Italy are a better side than in 2010, they were Euro runners up and performed well in the Confed Cup, especially against Japan and Mexico.

Set up a UK address account with your PS3, and log into the PS3 with it. Then you can download ITV player and BBC iPlayer, which have all the games live. Hopefully they will be available on the PS3 version of the software. I think they are, as I just Googled it...

I just want Costa Rica to beat either Italy or England (because I want Uruguay to advance, so not them!).

The Ticos keep qualifying for World Cups, but the only teams they've ever beaten have been Scotland ('90), Sweden ('90), and China ('02). They need some kind of win like USA over Portugal ('02) or something.

*Edited because I forgot about 1990, had written that they've only ever beaten China but I guess that's not quite true. Still, get a big win already!

Not without Saborio and Oviedo. I think Navas will keep them in a game for a draw though, probably against England ala the Algeria game

#WorldCup Thursday's US-Belgium friendly in Sao Paolo has been cancelled due to worries about traffic and delays for players.

Real reason: They didn't want the two teams who would be playing in the championship to play against each other right before the tournament starts.
