According to the refs, the Utah defender didn't lead with his head so the hit that knocked Solomon out of the game wasn't targeting.

Was discussing this with @bruin228 recently: would love to see UCLA hire WKU OC Tyson Helton if Mazzone moves on/is told to seek other forms of employment.

That system would be perfect for Rosen while still allowing the Bruins to feature all of the NFL talent they've been bringing in at RB an TE lately.

It was a shoulder to shoulder hit. It was a very hard shot but it's not the defenders job to make sure he doesn't hit his head on the ground.

It's going to be a fun last 2 weeks to determine the South champ. If either SC or UCLA wins out, they win the South. If Utah wins out and SC loses, Utes win it. If UCLA beats Utah, Oregon beats SC, and then SC beats UCLA (which would be all home teams winning), I believe SC wins it.

USC is in the driver's seat, so because this is Pac 12 USC has no chance. Would be frustrating as a Utah fan if they don't get it done. Not going to be many years that the rest of the division will be this ripe for the taking.

Well, at least if we go to a bowl game, Scooby will likely be back for it. I guess that precludes him from getting a medical redshirt for this season, though.

Four 50 yard line tickets acquired for Saturday's game. My daughter's been asking to go all season, and it'll be my son's first time inside the Coliseum. Hopefully they can shake off that Oregon debacle quickly and refocus.

Nice. I'm sure they'll have a fun time listening to the band, seeing all the fans, etc.

Good thing they are young enough that they won't remember the impending massacre on the field

USC -3 to -3.5......so, essentially a push. That's probably about right. I just don't feel good about this game. Everyone saying Helton lost his chance at the full time gig, so I wonder if that will affect his focus at all this week and during the game. Plus, UCLA has physically dominated our team the last few years, so they've got the mental edge.

Yeah - I'm basically resigned on the outcome of this game. It's nice that Helton has kept the ship afloat since Sark's departure, and the wheels didn't come completely off to the tune of a 5-7 finish, but objectively, a 7-5 finish, for a team this talented, isn't exactly a good look, either.

Looking to next year, I don't see much to get excited about unless we get the next great USC corch, who historically, has been someone off the radar.

Considering what the team has been through a 7 and 5 finish doesn't seem that awful.

Maybe not, but it's still well below expectations, and there really wasn't a bright spot to be happy/excited about during the season. Losses to every decent team we played (with the possible exception of Utah), swept again by our archrivals, then probably either an ugly win or embarrassing loss to some mid-major, followed by defections of top recruits in the wake of the remainder of Sark's staff being fired - and the future looks pretty fucked.

I get what you're saying but the future is never that dark for a team with the prestige of USC. One day you guys will randomly luck into hiring a good coach and the rest of the conference will be in trouble.

Okay, so...if SC wins next week, I will get to break out my Trojan jacket over in Pasadena at the end of next month. Yay.

DONE DEAL ALERT @Irishman @PSUEagle @Mame YO @DanishDonut0

My sister just sent me an image of a text from one of her InSiDe SOuRcEs from Nike I guess? No idea about the context of this. It's one of her friends I'm thinking. This is probably 100% false, but I laughed hard at it.

"Here is the inside scoop on Pellum from my sources at the front office. Sounds like Pellum is going to be re-assigned and "promoted" to assistant head coach and some other bullshit title. He is the Ducks secodn best recruiter which keeps his value high. John Neal would move into defensive coordinator role. Managing Pellum's roles will be up the the discretion of the coaches. Pellum will not be the defensive coordinator next year. If he is, it's in name only and Neal gets a defensive coordinator salary."

If true, that sounds good, but definitely not holding my breath. Sound like some bullshit.

Adams got Honorable Mention QB? Haha. He put up vidya game numbers when he played. Oregon is prolly like 6-6 without him at best.

who replacing Frost tho? He couldn't hold out for something better?

This is what Paterno used to do at Penn State when he wanted to get rid of assistants without actually firing them (cue the Sandusky quips). Either give them some bullshit title "promotion" while taking away their juice or move them into some non-coach "assistant AD" type role. Given that Oregon's one of those programs that seems to value continuity and the loyalty that ensues, it wouldn't surprise me at all if that's how Helfrich elects to deal with this problem.

I'd have a hard time seeing Greatwood slip into that role: usually if you're a position coach for 20+ years you're not interested in moving up responsibility wise. Then again, Pellum broke that mold so...

What's the name of the WR coach Helfrich hired from Duke when he moved Frost to OC/QB's? He'd be my guess as the most logical in house replacement TBH.

Trying to figure out how Geonne Paul is not the defensive player of the year.

huh. buckner was dominant this year

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2015/11/26/college-10-best-players-in-college-football/

1. DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon

He didn’t have his best game of the season in the Ducks’ win over USC, but he still earned a good grade, and the fact is he has been a dominant force all season long. His lead in our PFF grades among interior defenders is similar to (if not greater than) Joey Bosa’s among edge defenders, so with Bosa earning a rare negative grade in the loss to Michigan State, we’ll move Buckner into the top spot here. Few interior linemen have been better against the run, and none have been better as a pass-rusher. His 59 total pressures far exceeds the total posted by the next-best inside player on the list, and in fact, only three edge rushers have produced more so far this season. That is remarkable.

Paul had 109 tackles, 13 for loss. 3 forced fumbles, 1 returned for a TD. 3 sacks and 4 interceptions.

Buckner had 76 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, 0 ints, 0 fumbles.

Paul impacted the game far more.

You think Bosa had a mediocre year, don't you?
