Pac-12 Thread

Oregon's QB situation is not really the problem. They're still top 20 in total offense (they should be a lot better with their skill talent, though). It's that Helfrich thought hiring a guy who had never been a DC before and pairing him with bad defensive talent was a good idea in the Pac-12.

You're right. It's more of an example of managing the program poorly. If you have to bring in grad transfers at QB multiple years, it means your QB recruiting and development is bad. And that's sort of a big deal for programs - just ask LSU.

I think Brick is right, though. They recruited largely okay and having Vernon Adams for a year is not something I'd turn down. Hell, the FSU team they played in the Rose Bowl went for a grad transfer QB, too. The problem is that Helfrich showed way too much loyalty to a guy that didn't even look like he belonged at the FCS level and that caused everyone to bail.

They definitely missed on some guys, though. Eric Dungey, the Cuse QB, is looking pretty decent there and would probably look even better at Oregon, which is where he's from. Only a sophomore, too, so they easily could've sold him on redshirting behind Adams and then starting for 3-4 years.

Now Mora has an excuse to keep the shitty, trog offense.

Wouldn't be surprised if it were 3-9.

I lol'd the other day reading that Mora is now 24-18 in conference play which was the same record Dorrell had.

but he's 3-1 against SC.

Darnold is really good. He's saving croch twitta. He does look like the villain from The Incredibles.

Statement game for both SC and UW on Saturday.

Are the Huskies a legit top 5 team? If so, they should be able to handle SC, in Seattle, pretty comfortably.

Or, is this 5-game turnaround for the Trojans a sign of things to come? Darnold has looked great in his 6 starts, and the offense has been rolling.

Statement game for UW was beating Utah at Utah and the title game. Definitely a statement game for USC though.

Nope. I'm deferring to Utopia's favorite Husky fan, @gohuskies, who emailed me yesterday to check in, and to say that this was a huge statement game for his Dawgs.

Would be a good win, but I don't see how beating an unranked team at home is a statement game, but whatever. If USC gets the win then hell yeah that's a statement win for USC. I also definitely think USC can win the game the way they have been playing.

Honestly, I sort of agree with you. Beating an unranked team at home isn't THAT big of a deal. I would just say things: (1) good year, bad year, or so-so year for the Trojans, other schools still like beating SC. It's the historical glamour girl of the conference, and a nice win. More importantly, (2) SC is 'on fire' at the moment and comes in on a wave of momentum. So if the Huskies can brush SC aside and keep rolling, it does make a statement....at least to me.....that they're legit. Because the knock on them to this point is they haven't played great competition. And ranked or not, beating THIS SC team, right NOW, would be a good accomplishment.

I probably don't have the hate for USC that most Pac 12 teams do since Utah didn't get murdered by them every year for a decade. I do agree that Washington beating this USC team right now does show that they are really good. I was speaking more to national prospective. USC not being ranked means they are not very good in the eyes of the east coast.

SC will probably be ranked at the end of the year, since they'll likely beat everybody aside from UDub, so it'll look good going into the playoff, but UDub is likely making it regardless.

Oregon has allowed 21 to Stanford and the 1st quarter isn't even over yet. So bad. I'd be shocked if Helfrich isn't fired.

This Donald guy sucks. (I wasn't referring to TheDonald, I was referring to U$C's Donald.)

EDIT: His last name is actually spelled DARNALD. Never mind...

Geez - how did we lose to Stanford and Utah again? Nice win for USC going into UCLA and ND games. If they finish strong, they're 9-3 and probably in the JAR Waistline Bowl. If they somehow make it back to the Pac12 CCG, they'd likely have a rematch with Warshingtern.

Makes that last second TD surrendered at Utah especially painful now. At the time, we looked shitty, and I figured it wouldn't matter anyway. But now......

Wish we could have a redo on the first 4 games.

I feel the same about losing to Cal. Utah gets that win they are in the mix for the playoffs.

Got to make sure they don't stub their toe against a bad UCLA or bad Notre Dame. Nothing would cause Helton's recently earned good will to evaporate faster.

@bruin -- what's the game time refreshment of choice gonna be? Since it's a night game and possibly 'cold' tonight, I think I'll go full elitist and sip some Syrah in front of the fireplace.

Don't think Utah is good enough to beat Colorado at Colorado. That being said, it is the pac 12 so who the hell knows.
