Saints taking out payday loans to sign players b/c Brees got all the money

I only call him a noodle here because most of the board calls him noodle. I like Brees.

Give me Brees over the other 31 QBs in the league.

Yes...he would have been drafted before 27.

The question is whether or not he is better than Marqise Lee from USC. Cooks is faster, led the NCAA in receiving yards, and won the 2013 Biletnikoff Award.

I like the pick. The Saints are the perfect team for Cooks.

Selfishly, I wanted Lee to land with either Seattle or NO. Last year's production dropped, because he was playing through an injury all year. But he was a beast the year before. I know a lot of SC offensive players have been busts lately, but I think Lee will be a great pro.

I half hope to see the 49ers package a 3rd and one of their late 2nds to move up and grab Lee. I think he would be nice to have next year as the 3rd or 4th receiver.

Lee could be dangerous on that team. Crabtree will certainly command the most attention from opposing D's. If Lee can can line up in single coverage all the time, he could have a huge year.

Though I wouldn't love having to see him deal with NFC West defenses all the time.

He would because Crabs and Boldin will see the most heat. Lee would be single covered every play to start

All of my friends who are RAWL TAWDE fans want the Saints to draft McCarron. Would you guys hate/love that?

Like TM said, Lee was banged up all season last year and probably played the whole season 70% at best. Then throw in a underwhelming 40 time and O NOES THE SKY IS FALLING. I just hope he stays out of the AFC.

If he's a late round pick or a FA signing, I'm sure he'd be a perfectly capable backup to Brees. But the Saints don't need McCarron. Taking him in early to middle rounds would be a waste, IMO.

no. I think they have their replacement in Ryan Griffin. But i'll reserve judgment until pre season. I hope he can really challenge McCown for the no. 2 backup spot

I think JAX would've been my last choice team for Lee.

At least NOLA didn't trade the rest of their picks for him.

How do I IT?
Saints picked up Sunseri as an undrafted free agent. He should make a great backup safety/nickel back. I'd dare say our D is in great shape after picking up Byrd and getting a bunch of new talent in the draft. Do we really need anything else? Maybe a LB?

Cooks is gonna be a beast with Brees.

Powell was the #1 ovr DE coming out of HS. Will play OLB in our scheme.

Had a bad injury (tore ACL) in 2012, and hasn't been the same ever since

Our whole team was bad in 2013, so who knows if he lost a step or not

He has potential to be a disruptive force, very good value in the 5th round, with his huge upside. He could be the new Demarcus Ware/Junior Galette pass rusher in the Rob Ryan D.

I would like your opinion on this article. I thought it summed up my thoughts very succinctly

http://www.bourbonstreetshots.com/2014/05/28/season-in-review-jrue-holiday/

It's a very fair assessment. Is Jrue going to be an elite point guard in NBA? Maybe. He could, if he continues to develop, into a borderline elite/tier 2 PG. I would lean to the top end of tier 2 than the bottom of elite. He plays well but still has holes in his game which can be exploited. He's not going to be the primary or secondary scoring option for a championship team but he could be a solid 3rd option solely because he's the point guard and has the ball in his hands.

However, I'll still argue that the Pels gave up a lot to get that piece of the puzzle.

You say that without seeing what any contributions from any of those picks. What if the pels decided to keep Pierre Jackson and he becomes a decent pro? There are just too many ways to evaluate this and not as cut and dry as you and OU like to make it

Pels could have had, this year, Davis and Noel as the twin towers on defense which could eliminate many defensive mistakes the Pels guards make. Instead, they decided to give an asset in Noel and other potential asset in the #10 for one asset in Jrue.

I'll my chances with the management team that kept it's '13 first round asset in MCW, got another team's '13 first round asset in Noel, and '14 first round asset while only giving up one asset in Jrue. Most GMs would ask for, at least, a future 1st rounder in return for giving up a 1st round pick even when paired with Jrue coming off an all-star season.

The Moose will have four top-11 picks on the roster from just two drafts. The Pels have two top-11 picks on their roster and one of those is Austin Rivers.

It's all about obtaining assets, Reel, and Pels gave up a bunch for a player who's going to be a third, second at best, option on a championship team.

I get that but at some point this assets have to become more than assets. Need I remind you that the pels lead the league in blocked shots since that seems to be the biggest thing Noel supporters like to bring up in every woulda, coulda, shoulda scenario.

The top 5 protected pick imo said to me that they at least thought they would contend immediately for a bottom seed in the west but then then injuries came and came in abundance and despite that, they still didn't finish with one of the top five worst records in the league. I think they thought of it went bad then at least they could keep the pick. I probably would've made it a top ten protected. I'm not even sure that's possible tbh. But keep collecting picks. That will definitely ensure that you will make the playoffs some day

which has been my point all along. Ya'll are putting way too much stock in guys that havent played a single game yet.

I'm probably the only Sixer fan in the world that was bummed about them trading Jrue for Noel.

We'll see. They hit MCW later in the draft than the Pels pick, maybe they just got lucky. If they have a guy who can scout, an average PG isn't going to do it.

Would you rather have Jrue/Steven Adams or MCW/Gordon/Noel?

MCW/Gordon/Noel now. I was saying when they traded him I was bummed.

I think what made it such a good trade is that it allowed them to take MCW. Who knows if they'll keep him but he played really well last year and his ceiling is way higher than Jrue's was.

I agree. Although I like/liked Jrue, I still believe New Orleans gave up too much for him. Could have gotten Noel last year, and picked a PG in this year's draft instead of getting Jrue.

I don't know what he made last year, but he is in his early 20s. Doesn't have near the ceiling MCW does, I'm sorry. Given MCW played how he did last year, I'd rather have him over Jrue right now on the Thudner.

Jrue is a good PG Reel, but he's just average at best. Maybe slightly above average. If the Pels ever make the playoffs, which I imagine will be sometime in the near future, Jrue won't be the deciding factor.

I mean there's no denying he's going to be a big contribution, but he's no All-Star.

so if MCW production drops drastically in year 2, then what do you think? I mean, he is coming off ROTY whatever that means, and is in trade talks already? That could crush his psyche.

I dont think me nor fisher said anything contrary to that. I guess if ya'll dont view him as an upgrade from Vasquez, then yea, the pels gave up too much for him.

I just sit back and think on what could've been had he played the entire year with AD. I mean, did you watch that clip from the Blazers game in that link I posted? He was really starting to turn it on.

If Jrue had played the whole season I bet he would have put up at least 18 ppg. Pelicans still wouldn't have made the playoffs though.

That's not their fault either. They're just in a tough ass division.

I mean there are just too many things that play into that and none of them fall solely on jrue. Again, Anderson missed practically the entire season. That was a bigger loss than jrue imo.

Austin made a decent leap in his year two development which was promising. But ultimately I think both teams got what they wanted
